is Parker 51 octanium nib better than gold nib?

Parker 51 official website got a few nibs up for grabs, and I'm eyeing that medium size.

I got a Parker 51 with a smaller gold nib right now, but is it really worth almost smokin' my wallet just to stick with gold? I mean, is that gold nib that much better than the Parker 51 octanium nib?

As a collector, you gotta weigh these things, what do you think guys?

The octanium nib is just as good as the gold one but way cheaper. The thing with the gold one is that you get a more luxurious feeling and look and it's for the collectors that are looking for prestige and rarity. If you want durability, functionality and value then stick with the octanium nib.

The Parker 51 gold nib looks nice and has a touch of elegance, but honestly, it doesn't do much more than the Octanium nib when it comes to writing. Both of them write really smoothly since they have the same tipping

If you're after that gold feel or you want something for your collection, then go for it. But if you're just looking for a good pen to write with, the Octanium nib will serve you just fine. Just consider how much you want to spend versus what you're really getting
