I recently read about this beautiful, large pen, it's a Montblanc Bohéme fountain pen. I'm so fascinated, so I just need to write a quick breakdown of the review, here we go:

  • Love for the Original Bohéme: it's a fact that a regular Bohéme Marron is beautiful due to its color combo, shape, and clever mechanism, also the smooth nib.
  • Regular Bohéme is Small: I like the proportions, but the regular Bohéme is too small for his comfortable use, especially compared to his preferred larger pens (like the 149).
  • Big Size Discontinued & Rare: The Bohéme Platinum Line Big Size was produced briefly and is now discontinued, making it a rare pen and sought after, often priced high.
  • Big Size's Appeal: It looks large but feels personal, has a somewhat classic design contrasting with modern elements, a textured thread detail, a unique operation, a durable feel, and a "Neogothic" look. I think it looks more impressive than a 149.
  • Big Size Dimensions: It's significantly larger than the regular Bohéme, close in length to a posted 149, and he considers it more suited for men. It's also slightly heavier than a 149.
  • Cap Details: It has a flat cap with a white star, a platinum ring, and a well designed clip with a serial number.
  • Cap Ring: The large ring at the cap's base too showy compared to the regular Bohéme.
  • Cap Opening & Grip: It takes 2.5 turns to uncap. The transition to the grip is smooth, and the grip has three platinum rings.
  • Nib Mechanism: The nib extends and retracts with a turn of the rear cone. This can be inconvenient for frequent writing breaks.
  • Cartridge Only: The Big Size uses standard international cartridges. I imagine that inserting the cartridge must be a satisfying process.
  • Nib: It has a #6 18K gold, rhodium-plated nib (like the 146), which is smooth with some feedback, though not as wet as his 149.
Overall Opinion: From the articles I read, it looks like the Bohéme Big Size and large pen is a good, honest, and well made writing instrument with a simplistic, technical charm. I really hoping I can find one of them, I'm sure it'll hold a respected place in my collection

ouwee, the bohéme big size, basically the unicorn of montblancs hehe. anyway enough salivating, the regular's pretty, but too small if you're used to a 149. The big size, though? rare, cartridge only, and built like a dream and you see the retractable nib is pure nerd candy awwi could melt. If I ever find one, I'll probably just stare at it instead of writing.
