when were ball point pens used in washington state schools?

My pops collects tons of fountain pens, I always thought that they're really cool. He told me when he was in school around in the late '50s, everyone wrote the important papers with a real fountain pen. It was just the way.

I'm curious: when were ball point pens used in Washington State schools and in society at large? When did that change really come to pass? Bcs I still think we should use a fountain pen when we're writing something important, like signing documents and all.

Oh yes, ballpoints started taking over in the U.S. by the late '50s and early '60s, especially in schools, mostly because they were cheap and low-maintenance. But yeah, there's still something about a fountain pen that just feels more official and thoughtful.

That's such a great connection to have with your dad's experience but one concern I have is how quickly we've moved away from meaningful writing traditions. Ballpoint pens became common by the '60s in most U.S. schools, including Washington, but in that shift, we may have lost the care and intention that fountain pens naturally encourage

Yeah, by the '60s, they were common in schools, including in Washington state, and pretty much replaced fountain pens by the '70s, prefer fountain pens though lol
